The following year, the Zoo Check Charitable Trust produced “The Zoochotic Report,” (source: ) taken over three years at over 100 zoos in Europe, though the neurotic behaviors captured in these videos are not confined to animals in European zoos. In 1992 by Bill Travers, co-founder of the Born Free Foundation coined the term “Zoochosis” to describe this obsessive, repetitive behaviors, and described zoo animals behaving abnormally as “zoochotic.” Source: (Source: ) These are scientifically referred to as “Abnormal Repetitive Behavior,” or ARB. Zoo animals can develop any number of neurotic behaviors from the stress of captivity. Many species are used to traveling miles every day in nature. Birds can only flay so far, giraffes can only walk so many paces, elephants can only travel from one wall to another, and monkeys can only climb so high. Zoo animals spend day after day, year after year in the same enclosure. While some zoos attempt to grant their animals as much space as possible, they can never recreate the natural expanse of territory found in the wild. No matter how accurately zoos attempt to recreate habitats, they will never be natural. There is nothing more unnatural than the behavior of wild animals in human-made enclosures. The exhibits can be hit or miss depending when you go but we love the condor exhibit and elephant the best as well as the tigers.Ĭertifications mean nothing to the innocent animal that is there against their will. Also go to Safari park in the winter as they have really cute lights put up. At Safari park, book the The Watering hole in advance trust me it is a wonderful spot with the most incredible view we always just go for a drink and to be in awe. Also I find that the gondola line is not as long at the front of the park but it can be quite long once you get to the other side (by polar exhibit I think). personally I don’t think the elephant area is worth the trek but Africa rocks is. Pro tips: at the zoo, book Albert’s restaurant ahead of time for food (best place in the zoo to eat imo), definitely check out the aviaries and koala area. The Safari is awesome honestly one of the most amazing places I’ve ever been to. r/California /r/losangeles /r/Anaheim /r/Fullerton /r/HuntingtonBeach /r/InlandEmpire /r/irvine /r/lahabra /r/longbeach /r/NewportBeach /r/SanClemente /r/Tustin SchoolsĬSUF CSULB UCI UCR Chapman SaddleBack OCC Otherĭisneyland OCParents ThemePark jobsinOC OCBeer OCTrees SoCalR4R OC Classified SocalHikingĭefinitely recommend the membership if you plan to make this a somewhat regular or quarterly activity as you get access to both the zoo and safari.
